The breast talk

I attended a health seminar about 2 years ago where the speakers talked about the carcinogenic contents that most deodorants contain and how they can cause breast cancer.  As if that wasn’t enough, one of the speakers, a man mounted the stage and the first thing he said ‘Most women do not know that the type of bras they choose to wear all their lives is one of the major causes of sagging breasts. These days, women as young as 35 have boobs of 55 year old women’.

Oh boy!

Uneasy stares across the room. Most of the participants were young women and they all really looked good but that statement touched all of us somehow. All I asked myself at that point was, Dear Lily, could you have been wearing the wrong type of bra all your life? Is this bra you are wearing now which is your favourite be so wrong that you’d end up with the boobs of a 55 year old at 35? Ha!

Women are always worrying about their breasts. Maybe it’s because you only need to tilt your head a bit and the breasts are in your face. It’s not big enough! it’s too big! It’s too small! It hangs low! It hangs too high! It doesn’t fill out my clothes! It has tiny stretch marks! And other real and unreal stuff women come up with each time they tilt their heads south.

Click HERE and HERE to read articles and also maybe know the shape of breasts you have. Now these articles might not be authoritative plus I think all breasts are perfect in their own way, I just want you to see that among other things like pregnancy, rapid weight loss etc, the wrong kind of bra or no bra at all and no sports bra when exercising is one of the reasons why younger women find themselves with sagging breasts. We might not be able to do much about the others but we can get ourselves good bras that would provide good support and help the muscles that keep our breasts up.

So support, support all the way ladies!

Now how do you know you are wearing the right bra? It has to be your size first and foremost. Band size and cup size have to be accurate. It shouldn’t be so tight you are choking or so loose its shifting 360 degrees beneath your clothes. Read HERE to check if you are wearing the right bra.

Now for the kind of bra you are wearing now, yes it has a name, click HERE and find out about different kinds of bra. Really cool pictures and informative too.

Stay pretty!

Lily Johnson.

  1. Lovely post. It is good to put up articles like this, talks that shed light on how we take care of our breasts. That part of women's bodies, mm. E dey fear me. Sooo delicate! Lily, Dara, has moderate breasts. They give her concern however. She likes to be busty when she is dressed up and so she buys an over padded bras with form that paints her breasts another picture they are not. Beautiful Front Work if you ever see her. The picture evokes catcalls and men asking 'Hello, are you going my way?' *Wink* She is also habitually used to wearing favorite bras. Well, Lily, do you think if Dara goes on like this, she would have a 55 breasts at 35?

  3. Great article, and you're right that we women are sometimes pre-occupied with the look of our breasts, however health is more important.

  4. @Dara: Dear, your comment had me laughing something fierce. As long as your breasties are cased in good and supportive bras, you will be just fine. Thanks for the comment.

@Myne: Sometimes, i think we even obsess about them. Yes, health should always come first. Thanks.

  14. Great post and great links. I am now bra-tified :)

I dont love bras much and thankfully cos of the cold weather here i can get away with breast supporting vests instead of bras. I can't wear those in Naija cos of the heat!
