I am Phabiluscious...

I am moving the contents of Phabiluscious to this blog. So you’d be seeing some reviews on beauty products and fashion stuff.  I would also feature some beauty and fashion businesses once in a while. And fashionable people too.  I figured I could do that here without the stress of managing another blog.

Have yourselves a fantastic weekend.

The cake and the controversy...

So I saw this news somewhere online. The picture is for a fact the weirdest thing I have seen in a long time. A cake shaped to look like an African woman. And Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth, the Swedish Minister for Culture was cutting the cake at the very core of womanhood and laughing so hard.

Hmmm...

This is not a very good picture Madame

The explanation goes thus. An Afro Swedish man Makode Aj Linde who has been against female genital mutilation for years came up with this concept to draw attention to female genital mutilation.

"The cake eating party was intended to highlight the problem of female circumcision”.

Hmmm....

Today is my birthday...

Yeah, I got a year older today. I am grateful to God for all HE has done for me and I am so sure HE is about to do more because, well I have a few more that I am asking HIM for. [Baba God, You know how far o! Na Your own miracle pure pass]

I followed my mum to a small village called Esepe around Oku afo area in Badagry where she is supervising a survey job. I took a few pictures.
The only church in the village i think. Check out the age of the founder before he died.

Get off your high horse and reach out!

Some of us tend to be wrapped in our own world with our jobs and rather busy schedules that we tend to forget our family and true friends. No calls. No text messages. Nothing. We leave all that for them to do because we are too busy to. It is only sensible and mature to try to create time for your loved ones despite what you might be going through.

Individual A: He loves his family and close friends but scarcely has the time to reach out to them because he is wrapped up in this time and energy consuming project. However, when they call, text or ping him, he would reply. But he won’t do that first though because he is too busy to. If they don’t, then oh well! He may not reply your message in two days. And when he does, he acts like you didn’t send him any message at all. You should know he is a very busy person.

Yeah, you look cool in your suit and all. Be civil while at it

Lily to Individual A: Good day sir. I understand your situation. You are a very hard working person. Can you devote 10 minutes out of 24 hours to talk with your family. Not every day of course but maybe once a week. When you are in the rest room doing your business, could you reply your pings and return last year’s Xmas greetings? Could you apologise for not being in touch for a while? We understand you are busy. Be civil while at it. Stop making your family and friends feel they are disturbing you each time they want to make a call or send you a message to just to know how you are fairing.

Diamond in the Rough

Hey Mister, listen to me I am talking to you.
I know you have your reservations but listen to the truth
I got no suit, observed no rules, but I will be of some use to you.
Don’t lose your cool, I know you’re through, but I got to say something to you
So before you throw out my papers saying I don’t have a second class
Could you calm down and let me tell you things they don’t even teach in class

Cos I am a diamond in the rough
Uncut. Unpolished. Diamond in the rough.
A little cut here and there and I am a world wonder
Diamond in the rough.

Uncut. Unpolished. Diamond in the rough
Dear lady, stop for a while I’m trying to catch up with you.
You said I couldn’t sing for beggars, you didn’t want a green horn with you.
I got no tape. My voice no shape. You wonder what I want with you.
You feel my pain but it’s a shame, there’s really nothing you can do.
But don’t hasten to write me off because I don’t even look prepared
I got something to show that I shouldn’t have left reserved.

Cos I am a diamond in the rough
Uncut. Unpolished. Diamond  in the rough
A little cut here and there and I am a world wonder
Diamond in the rough....

I wrote this piece some years ago. It’s actually a song. I wrote it after listening to the experiences of people that believed that they were better than the society saw them and they actually had something to offer. Bitter experiences I tell you. These people had only one thing going on for them; Belief and Hope.

April is the month of Diamonds. You are a unique in your own way. Just believe in yourself and explore all the possibilities within your reach. You are a star and don’t you dare stop pursuing your dreams.

Happy New month and may all your dreams come true. Much love...

Foods that are great for the African skin.

It has been said that you don’t get a glowing skin by just using cosmetics. Nutrition plays a major role too. So I stumbled on foods that are especially good for the skin while looking for materials for a project. I made more research and it seemed like most beauticians/nutritionists agree that these food items should be eaten by every woman especially the African woman as often as she can for that glowing skin.  I must say I didn’t know some of this information and this isn’t a comprehensive list. Just the three I didn’t know about.

Spinach: When I saw this I remembered with mixed feelings the way my mum used to make us eat spinach stew on some Sundays. We would all sit at the table and she would unleash a healthy looking cane and warn us to finish eating our ‘green stew’. We would eat in tears and wonder why we had to eat ‘green’ when we can have the delicious ‘red’ stew we were sure kids all over the world were having at that time.

That was many years ago though. I totally love it now. Spinach contains lutein. Lutein, a nutrient known to be involved in eye health, has now been found to also play a role in the health of the skin. Lutein improves skin hydration, elasticity and lipid content. Lutein gives us healthier skin, provides deep protection from the harmful blue light of the sun, and may help prevent skin cancer.  Lutein is also found in eggs. In fact, its bioavailability from an egg is higher than from spinach. But I do know I would indulge in vegetables. I am not really an ‘egg’ person.

Generally speaking.....

Hey y’all!

*hugging everyone* Hope you guys have been cool? Well, I have God to thank for everything in my life and in the lives of my loved ones. He has been faithful.
Too many happenings yeah? The bombings in Jos and other parts of the North.  May God protect us all from this inhumanity. I will never understand why anyone would agree to kill himself and other innocent people in such a violent manner.

The way people [I suspect women] talk about unmarried celebrities like it’s a disease they aint married yet. They just aint married YET. Well since it is now a disease [or something like that] beside alcoholism and drug dependency, this should be a perfect opening at the ‘Yet to be married women meetings’

Hello, I am Lily Johnson. [Hi Lily]
I am a woman of ‘marriable’ age. [That means I am between 18 and 35 years old. Because after 35, the belief is that you are doomed forever.]
But I am not married yet. [Well, since the meetings are for only unmarried women, the participants are not allowed to say awww...]

Marriage is a beautiful thing and of course we all love what it comes with; the lovely rock on that finger [hehehe], the man of your dreams [errr...not all the time if we want to be truthful to our selves] and children [the highest point in marriage for most women]. When a lady isn’t married yet, it doesn’t always mean she has a bad character, has a spiritual problem or cannot keep a man. There are a thousand and one other relatable reasons. Just saying.

Dude, it would be in your best interest to put a ring on it though.

And there is colour blocking. Bold colours are still in and roaring! While some ladies get it right [Not that I am an authority in the thing but at least they look good], others look like circus tricks. And guys are catching up fast too. One guy made me laugh really hard the other day. He said a guy doesn’t have any business with a belt that isn’t black or brown. Quoting him, ‘Dudes be walking around looking like Teletubbies!’

Thank you all for all your comments.

Spread the love...

And yes she is back!
