At Random

Hello dearies, I haven’t updated this blog in two months. I have been recording songs and doing other things. It hasn’t been easy but God has been faithful. And being an artiste is far from easy. I can tell you that. And I still have quite a way to go. So when you see these popular ones do their thing, they did suffer to make it happen. Spent a lot of money, did a lot of hard work and endured a lot of bull crap.  True story. So to all the upcoming artistes, may God bless your hustle, Amen.

Am I the only one wondering why the only things in the news these days are rape and paedophilia? It’s crazy. Rape in troubled zones and domestic rape. Evil boys rape girls and put the videos online.

A group of Indian are perfecting an underwear line that is supposed to be rape-proof. I don’t even know how they would do that but hey, it’s worth a try. Some are even talking about reintroducing the chastity belt. That’s how bad the situation is. And these are even reported cases. Most women won’t report cases of rape and we all know why. And the paedophiles running around defiling children? It’s just horrible and I hope all these people are caught, thrown into jail and someone misplaces the keys in the Pacific.

RIP Margaret Thatcher. I grew up knowing her as that woman that showed men that what a man can do a woman can do a whole lot better. I also realized that people didn’t really like her. Many Britons were ranting on blogs, Facebook and Twitter. And I don’t know if telling her ‘Rust in Peace’ was supposed to be funny or just to match with the fact that she was called ‘The Iron Lady’ her whole life. So now that she’s dead, she’s rusting. Hmmmm. I didn’t even know she was that pretty. Really, all I ever saw was unflattering pictures of her. She was a looker. May her soul rest in peace.

Loving these at the moment

These are some items that I’m loving at the moment. I want some of them for Christmas and I’m expecting that all my friends and family would read this post and go shopping knowing they would get shrills of excitement from me. Yes o!

#1. This dress

Now, I put up this particular picture so I can lay emphasis on the type I want; the fabulous knee length dress on Alicia Keys. I don’t exactly like the shorter version of it. I think this dress is gorgeous. Or maybe it’s just Alicia. Lovely!

#2. Nokia Lumia 900

Adverts on TV make you sometimes want ever so badly what you might not even need. I got sold when I saw the ad of Nokia Lumia on TV. The part where the guy actually took it out of a bag of flour and washed it did it for me. I’m one of those people that go into the kitchen with my phone so that I do not miss an email. So, with this, ‘accident proof’ phone, life would be a lot easier.

Generally speaking.....

Hey y’all!

*hugging everyone* Hope you guys have been cool? Well, I have God to thank for everything in my life and in the lives of my loved ones. He has been faithful.
Too many happenings yeah? The bombings in Jos and other parts of the North.  May God protect us all from this inhumanity. I will never understand why anyone would agree to kill himself and other innocent people in such a violent manner.

The way people [I suspect women] talk about unmarried celebrities like it’s a disease they aint married yet. They just aint married YET. Well since it is now a disease [or something like that] beside alcoholism and drug dependency, this should be a perfect opening at the ‘Yet to be married women meetings’

Hello, I am Lily Johnson. [Hi Lily]
I am a woman of ‘marriable’ age. [That means I am between 18 and 35 years old. Because after 35, the belief is that you are doomed forever.]
But I am not married yet. [Well, since the meetings are for only unmarried women, the participants are not allowed to say awww...]

Marriage is a beautiful thing and of course we all love what it comes with; the lovely rock on that finger [hehehe], the man of your dreams [errr...not all the time if we want to be truthful to our selves] and children [the highest point in marriage for most women]. When a lady isn’t married yet, it doesn’t always mean she has a bad character, has a spiritual problem or cannot keep a man. There are a thousand and one other relatable reasons. Just saying.

Dude, it would be in your best interest to put a ring on it though.

And there is colour blocking. Bold colours are still in and roaring! While some ladies get it right [Not that I am an authority in the thing but at least they look good], others look like circus tricks. And guys are catching up fast too. One guy made me laugh really hard the other day. He said a guy doesn’t have any business with a belt that isn’t black or brown. Quoting him, ‘Dudes be walking around looking like Teletubbies!’

Thank you all for all your comments.

Spread the love...

And yes she is back!

At random

So I watched ‘Ice loves Coco’ [a reality TV show] and saw Coco working out. That woman looks so in shape even though she is voluptuous. One particular routine caught my eye. Okay, while most of us work out in ‘canvass’ or sports shoes, she works out in high heels. And she was doing squats in them! Now, some Hollywood starlets with beautiful behinds like Kim Kardashian and Jessica Biel have sworn that they got that not by injecting fat from their thighs into their behinds or butt implants but by doing the squat routine regularly. That particular exercise looked.. weird and I thought okay, let me try this because it looked really challenging and I love that kinda stuff. Not because I wanted [or needed a bigger derrière. Why am I laughing?]

So I wore these babies and did the squat thingy. They aint exactly stripper shoes but as we would say in this part of the world, 'Who send me message?'

After exactly 25 squats, this dear girl was exhausted and breathing like crazy. That exercise targets your thighs and hips. After squatting thrice without holding anything, I felt it was for the best to hold a chair. Believe me; Coco makes this thing look easy. It took everything I had in me to get to 25. So there, I tried it and I think I would exercise like that once in a while. If I remember. Or totally forgot how errr..’really exercised’ my waist was.

Speaking off Kim K, a week ago, a particular young woman on twitter and a group of people were sort of bashing Tyler Perry for casting the reality TV star in his new movie. I know lots of people just don’t like Kim K. Yeah, I know she has a sex tape, posed for PlayBoy and all that. But what is wrong with Tyler casting her in his movie? I really don’t understand what that was all about.

I really don’t like how some Lagosians stress these poor boys that sell stuff on the roads. Like it’s just too much to bear sometimes. So this overly made up, gum chewing, loud young woman calls on a guy selling drinks and took Lacasera from his plastic basket while the boy was running as usual to catch up the bus driver that kept switching lanes. Then she starts looking for money in her purse, pauses to answer a call and talked utter gibberish for a few minutes while this young man was still running! And after a while, she brought out a thousand naira note. The young man still doing the semi marathon struggled to give her the balance while holding the basket and enduring her chanting ‘Don’t give me tattered money o! Ehen!’

Can you imagine? The money she gave the guy wasn’t exactly fresh out of the printing machine. In fact, it was old. I know it seems like I’m being a bit sentimental here after all, it’s what they do some people might think. But hey, it is hard enough for them that they have to do this for a living so I think it is fair that you have your money in your hand before you call them so that you guys would finish your exchange business without the poor guy having to run from Ojota to Maryland.

What first came to mind when I saw Tonto Dike’s tattoo on Linda’s blog was Wow! Till now, I still cant get past the words ‘Wow!’, and ‘Way out of the ordinary’. Tonto Dike is a Nigerian actress

Or what do you think?

Have a wonderful weekend y’all!

This is who I am...

I am Lily Johnson

I am a Nigerian woman

I am against all forms of sexual violence.

I am against human trafficking and slavery.

I am against terrorism. I am against jungle justice because it should be a crime to take laws into your hands.

I am against tribalism.

I am against all kinds of fraudulent practices.

I am against racism.

I am against the violation of basic human rights.

I am against the oppression of the poor and helpless.

I am all for supporting noble causes.

I am all for National and World peace.

I am all for empowering, educating and motivating women and the youth.

I am all for the true practice of democracy.

I am all for fairness, equity and justice.

I just woke up this morning and found myself writing this. I don’t know if it is because of the gist a friend gave me last night about a Chinese site that blocked his IP after sending them emails about a product or the not so recent travel warnings issued by the US [Click here][And who would blame them for wanting to protect their citizens] or the fact that so many things have been happening in recent times that beg the question ‘What is going on?’

One thing is for sure though, a lot of Nigerians would stand up for what is right and I am one of them.

Hope your week is going well? God bless you.

At random....

I didn’t know how annoying what I am about to tell you was until yesterday. I was coming back from work exhausted. It had rained and because I was on the road, I wasn’t exactly dry. I was in a stuffy bus as usual and because it had rained, the fare was doubled. (Sigh). I was having a mad headache and still had a lot to think about; e mails, clients, phone calls, transactions....

Then the man beside me decided at that moment in my life to whip out carrots and began to chew on them like Bugs Bunny. Now people, carrots are a good source of Vitamin A and carotene. I eat them too and who am I to try to stop a brother from getting his Vitamin A? But trust me if you were in my situation, you would have wanted to take them carrots off his hands and hurl them out of the window. Crunch crunch crunch and talking loudly in between telling the driver not to drive so fast. Crunch crunch crunch endlessly looking for things inside his pockets and making me more uncomfortable. Crunch crunch crunch as he talked to the man at the other end and had to bring his crunching mouth closer to my aching head. I hadn’t ever thought that I would need someone to stop eating carrots before. I actually needed him to stop. But how do I tell him? I didn’t have anything against him and like I said I love carrots but my life would have been much better without that sound at that point in time.

Fashion, fashion... Beyonce wore an Emilio Pucci dress to the Costume Institute Gala in New York and girlfriend could barely move a leg! Yes, sometimes we do one or two things for fashion but I thought it was just too much. I saw a lady about three days ago wearing very high heels that wasn’t even comfortable and you could see that she was struggling to walk without twisting her ankle. Her skirt suit was short and she was self conscious. It was the laughter of some jobless and naughty young men that made me notice her. She would have been more comfortable and confident in moderate heels.

Weew! This can't be easy to pull off.

Have yourselves a great week.

My thoughts...

For those who read the post, Not that line again , well the clients aren’t paying because they were not satisfied with the job we did. We didn’t do what we said we’d do after all. A pastor we did a job for even gave us a full lecture on integrity!

Anyway, life is a teacher and the only thing I take from the whole thing is experience. I have really learnt a lot. I know how hard it can be sometimes but people should take and appreciate the things they learn after going through bad situations. I would have made a lot in commissions if the work had been done properly but oh well! I have met new people and learnt a lot of things both professionally and personally.

Now, on a lighter note, I am yet to understand what is up with the theatrical eye lashes I see everywhere. I love the ‘kitty cat’ look, you know, batting the eyes and all but hey, you don’t need six foot long eye lashes for that. Those things are for music videos and errm... Halloween?

And it doesn’t exactly look good on small eyes. The eyes look choked and overwhelmed. Whatever works for you girls.

I want to thank you all for the birthday greetings. It rained heavily that day and I considered it as a blessing though I was on my way out when it started and got drenched.

Happy Easter people. Have tons of fun.

Lily Johnson.
